Discover Kota Kinabalu from above

A new urban eco-attraction in Kota Kinabalu is offering visitors a fresh perspective on Sabah’s vibrant capital.

Opened in November 2025, the Signal Hill Trail is the city’s first elevated forest walkway, combining heritage, nature and panoramic city views to add a compelling new dimension to any visit.

Located in the heart of the city, the walkway links two of Kota Kinabalu’s most iconic landmarks: the historic Atkinson Clock Tower and the Signal Hill Observatory Tower.

Sabah’s oldest surviving structure, the Atkinson Clock Tower was originally built in 1905 and has been meticulously restored to preserve its historical integrity, while also enhancing accessibility and safety for users. At the opposite end of the trail, the Signal Hill Observatory Tower serves as a popular viewpoint, offering sweeping vistas over the city, surrounding islands and coastline.

The 500-metre trail winds through the forest canopy and features eight viewing decks with expansive city and coastal views. Along the route, visitors may encounter wildlife such as long-tailed macaques, tree shrews, kingfishers and butterflies.

Family-friendly and easily accessible, the experience has been incorporated into Asian Trails’ Half-Day Kota Kinabalu City Tour and is suitable for travellers comfortable with gentle walking.
