Elevated adventure in ancient forest
Taking guests into the heart of a million-year-old rainforest, Asian Trails’ new sustainable experience in Penang showcases the natural beauty and biodiversity of Penang Hill.

The programme blends nature, culture and conservation as guests stroll along leafy forest paths and take in panoramic canopy viewpoints. The journey begins with exclusive Fast Lane boarding on the electric funicular tram, transporting visitors to a cooler, elevated world of colonial landmarks, including the Bel Retiro Governor’s Residence, its Gate House and the historic 32-pounder cannon.
The journey continues at The Habitat, where tranquil nature trails, the 230-metre Langur Canopy Walk and the four-storey Curtis Crest Tree Top Walk – the island’s highest accessible point – provide spectacular views across the ancient rainforest.

Guests can also visit Kek Lok Si Temple, Malaysia’s largest Buddhist temple. Known as the Temple of Supreme Bliss, this spiritual site features a grand bronze statue of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy and a seven-storey pagoda adorned with 10,000 alabaster and bronze Buddha statues.
Part of Asian Trails’ Sustainable Trails portfolio, this tour celebrates Penang’s heritage, while supporting local communities and reducing environmental impact. Each visit to The Habitat contributes to ecological conservation initiatives that help protect this precious site.

The route, following paved paths throughout, is suitable for families with children able to walk independently. Nature enthusiasts can enjoy encounters with endemic species, including the Penang Hill Vampire Crab, gliding colugos and playful dusky langur monkeys.
