Celebrating country’s performing arts

A new cultural experience in Siem Reap puts Cambodia’s performing arts heritage centre stage.

Opened in October 2025, the Devi Theatre honours the nation’s classical and folk traditions – offering travellers a deeper insight into an art form that has shaped the nation’s identity for centuries. It is an engaging evening activity that pairs perfectly with a day exploring the Angkor Archaeological Park.

The theatre is named after Her Royal Highness Princess Norodom Buppha Devi, who played a pivotal role in reviving the Royal Ballet following the Khmer Rouge era, when most of Cambodia’s artistic heritage was nearly lost. This experience offers more than a performance – it is a living expression of Cambodia’s resilience and creativity.

The two-hour programme features a variety of performance styles, including the vibrant Chhai Yam folk dance and the graceful Apsara dance inspired by the bas-reliefs of Angkor Wat.

The highlight of the evening is the Royal Ballet, with its elegant movements and elaborate costumes, followed by acts that showcase the diversity of Cambodia’s folk, martial and classical dance traditions.
